Teal is the smallest duck in Iceland and Europe. It is quite common in ponds, lakes and on rivers around the country. They choose to hide their nests in vegetation of scrub if they can where they lay 7-9 eggs. Although there are believed to be some 3000-5000 nesting pairs in Iceland they are scattered around the country and on top of that the Teal tend to lay low so they aren't very noticeable. Several hundred birds stay during the winter and there are some known places where they can be found most of them in the southwest.
