The Fin whale is the second largest whale in the world. The long sleek body often reaching almost 30 meters. The fin whale displays a unique asymmetry in its coloration the usual pattern of light coloured below, dark above has been modified by these animals, so that the light colour reaches far up on the right hand side and the dark part is extended downward on the left side of the animal. The reason for this is probably that these animals seem to prefer to swim on the right side while hunting for a mouthful of crustaceans and small-fry just below the surface. The Fin whale was the main species to be hunted by the Icelandic whaling industry, but has not been hunted since 1985.
