The Blue whale, the largest animal ever to inhabit the earth still roams the rich waters off of Iceland's coasts. Filtering small crustaceans out of the water, like most other baleen whales they seem to find enough food to thrive, how ever unbelievable this may sound. Even though they are still considered rare, these beautiful creatures can be seen, mostly off the west coast of Iceland, in the summer months. But they migrate the warmer seas in winter where they both mate and bear their calfs. They do not seem to feed while in the winter quarters, so they have to feed for the year in the brief arctic summer.
