There isn't much space for lakes in The East Fjords. Further inland however the third biggest lake in the country lies just southwest of Egilsstadir. This is Lake Lögurinn a 35 km long, deep, narrow lake that is supposed to have a monster worm lurking somewhere in the deep. It is probably a good worm and there are some pictures of it although there isn't hard evidence of it's existence. There are many lakes in the region west of the fjords but none are very big. There is fishing in most of them and permits are easily attainable.
