It would be futile to try and describe the mountains of The East Fjords. These are as a whole the most beautiful mountains in Iceland in my opinion. They are everywhere, the fjords are packed with them and they are rough. Very rough. Usually the high is between 900 and 1200 meters and they are steep and quite bare. The main rock type is basalt but there is a lot of rhyolite too. The whole ridge from south to north is made from extinct volcanoes later gorged out from west to east by the glacier that covered the area during the ice age. Strange geological formations are common and all in all these mountains are interesting.
