The icelandic highlands are unique. There is great freedom to explore a land that's almost untouched. There is incredible variety of landscapes and just about the only thing that isn't there are trees. But they would only spoil the view. However travelling the highlands is not like the ordinary sunday drive, it takes some preparation and a vehicle that can handle the tracks.
