The North has many lakes the biggest of them being lagoons by the sea. These are fresh water lakes divided from the sea by long sand reefs. There is good fishing in many of the lakes and permits easily obtainable. There are also areas that have great numbers of small lakes like Skagi between Hunafloi bay and Skagafjordur. There is Trout in almost all of them. Rich bird life can be found on and around many of the lakes and there are several excellent spots for bird watching.
