There is much geothermal activity in South Iceland. Geysir, the big geyser after which all the geysers around the world are named, is there and in many areas whole villages of greenhouses have risen all heated by hot natural water. Needless to say most of the houses in the area are also heated this way and the swimming pools found everywhere get the hot water from the ground too. By the south coast east of the flatlands the mountains begin and they are capped with two glaciers. Myrdalsjökull is quite big but to the west of it another smaller one, Eyjafjallajökull, crowns the end of the mountain ridge.
