In these parts there are rivers everywhere. They are all kinds from the longest glacial river in the country, Thjórsá, to small crystal clear brooks and everything in between. There are some great salmon rivers and some powerful glacial rivers, one with pronounced sulphur smell, like the smell of rotten eggs or eggs that have travelled through the human anatomy. There is good fishing to be had in some rivers and quite cheap too and river rafting is becoming more and more popular. This really is river country and there is a lot of excellent waterfalls too.
