The shoreline of South Iceland is very different form the rest of the country because it doesn't have any fjords. Fjords are the most dominant factor of the shoreline around Iceland except for the south coast. Instead there are endless stretches of sandy beaches along the south coast and all the way to The East Fjords. The mountains west of Vík are the only places along the coast where mountains touch the sea. One of them is Dyrhólaey, a rock that rises up from the coast more than 100 metres. It has rich bird life and also is the southernmost point of Iceland.
