There is plenty of ice in the Southeast. In fact the whole area stretches along the one of the biggest glaciers in the world. From Vatnajökull many smaller glaciers flow down to the lowlands and their surface is all cracked and very rough. Often glacial rivers flow from under these glaciers sometimes very big ones. In many places it's possible to approach the edge of the glaciers for a closer look. The heat isn't as obvious but the last volcanic eruption in the country took place under the ice cap of Vatnajökull and there is certainly no lack of heat there.
