The lakes in Southeast Iceland are of very different origin. Some are glacier lakes or lagoons, some lagoons by the sea, mountain lakes or just plain ordinary lakes, whatever that may be in this country. There is good fishing in many of them especially in the west part where the water doesn't come from the glaciers. The glacier lagoons are probably the most interesting for tourists that aren't used to them and there are quite a few in the region of many types. Lake Breidamerkurlón is the most famous and probably the most interesting too.
