As a region of great contrast the Southeast offers many unusual things, The lava fields are many and in some places two lava fields from different times and origin that are side by side look totally different. The same can be said about the sands, somewhere smooth and quite grown but in other places bare and all cut up by glacial rivers with wet areas and quicksands. The canyons dug out by the many rivers are maybe among the most interesting things in the area and some of them are approachable and easy to explore. They are magnificent and shouldn't be left out of the travel plan.
