The shoreline of The Southeast is a long, line of sandy beaches. Most of the land closest to the sea are vast areas of sand with many glacial rivers flowing through them. Lagoons have formed in some places with sand reefs separating them from the ocean. There are no harbours along the coast except for Höfn in Hornafjördur and that one is very difficult to navigate because of the ever-changing reefs and the strong currents.
