Hvalfjordur is just north of Mt. Esja and although is't a beautyful fjord it has added 70 km to the road north of Reykjavik. Until August 1998. Now there is a tunnel under the fjord that shortens the trip north some 50 km. The fjord is still worth looking at especially if the weather is nice as it has many good hiking trails.		Close window
