West Iceland has several distinctly contrasting areas. The area around Borgarfjord is a fertile land with lots of farms but also a huge number of summer houses. Snæfellsnes peninsula almost 100 km. long is crowned by the Snæfellsjokull glacier. On each side of the peninsula are the two biggest bays of the country, the one to the north Breidafjord full of islands and rocks. There are many lakes and rivers as well as mountains and a lot to do for visitors both on their own or on organized tours.
