West Iceland has one magnificent glacier crowning the Snæfellsnes peninsula. It caps the top of a volcano last active about 1700 years ago. It has become very popular to walk to the top especially during the time of the midnight sun, late june. This region has geothermal activity in many places with the east part most active. Deildartunguhver geyser is the biggest in Iceland and probably on earth. Water from it is routed all the way to Akranes some 60 km away and used there to heat up the houses.
