Lakes are abundant in West Iceland. The east part has the uncountable lakes of Arnavatnsheidi many of those good for trout fishing. Myrar, the flatlands northwest of Borgarnes have many smaller lakes and ponds and there are some big lakes in the mountains of Snæfellsnes peninsula. Lake Hredavatn in Nordurardalur walley offers some exceptional trails for hiking through the bush covering the area or the many different mountains close by. There is a nice summer hotel there and services like swimming, horse rentals, fishing and such are close.
