West Iceland has a great big, long mountain ridge stretching almost 100 km. along Snæfellsnes peninsula. Also there is the smaller but just as majestic ridge Skardsheidi south of Borgarfjordur. In fact this area is surrounded by mountains of all shapes and sizes. To the east is Langjokull glacier and there are organised tours to it as well as Snæfellsjokull glacier at the end of the peninsula. Many of these mountains are great for hikes and the view from mountains like Mt. Baula and Mt. Heidarhorn almost make sore feet feel good.
