The West Fjords aren't one of the hot areas in Iceland. There are no active volcanoes but there are geothermal fields in some places although it's not enough for house heating. One Glacier, Drangajokull, is on the high plains in the eastern part of the area. It can be reached from the north shore of Isafjardardjup where it falls into the walleys. The best way is to go to Kaldalon and walk from there. It isn't far to the roots of the glacier and the walley is very interesting. During winter it is easy to drive to the glacier in special trucks and commercial tours are becoming more and more popular.
