Snipe
Snipe is the bird that makes the machine-gun like sound filling the spring air. It makes the sound by feathers that are on both side of it's tail. When the bird goes into a dive these feathers start to vibrate and make the sound that distinguishes the Snipe. It is a very common bird all over the country that arrives in april and early may. Some estimated 300.000 pairs are thought to breed in Iceland. It's habitat is mostly in marshes and moors but also in woodlands and copses.
